Torah Portion: Metzora
“וכי יטהר הזב מזובו…” (ויקרא טו יג)
It is a positive commandment that when the zav recovers from his condition he shall bring an offering, as it is written, When the man with the discharge ceases his discharge…. On the eighth day he shall take for himself two turtledoves or two young doves etc. (Vayikra 15:13).
Among the roots of the mitzvah is the idea that we wrote above, that bringing offerings hints to the subduing of the Inclination of the body while elevating the soul in the mind. Therefore, when the zav recovers it is befitting for him to recognize the debasement of his desire and re-align his body as much as possible, and by bringing an offering he will begin to internalize the lesson.
This mitzvah applies when the Holy Temple stands.
