Mitzvah 15) – To not remove any of the Pesach meat

Torah Portion: Bo

Do not bring any of its meat out of the group (Shemos 12:46).

It is a negative mitzvah to not take any of the meat of the Pesach offering out from the place where the group gathered, as it is written: Do not bring any of its meat out of the group (Shemos 12:46).

Among the roots of this commandment is as we have written: to remember the miracles of the Exodus from Egypt. And since we became free-men and masters [through the Exodus], we have this commandment which says that [the offering] should be eaten in the place of the group, for this is the way of royalty; whatever is prepared for them is eaten in their grand halls, among their large entourage. This is in contrast with people who are accustomed to poverty; when they [somehow manage to] prepare a large meal, they send out portions to their friends, since [the whole setting] is a novelty to them.

This commandment applies to both men and women. One who transgress this commandment and took some of the meat out [the group’s meeting place], violates this negative commandment.
