In the evening shall you eat matzos (Shmos 12:18).
It is a positive commandment to eat, on the night of the fifteenth of Nissan, matzah (unleavened bread) made of one of the species of grain, as is written, In the evening shall you eat matzos. “In the evening” refers to the night of the fifteenth of Nissan. This commandment is independent of the Pesach offering and applies whether or not the Pesach offering is brought or not.
Among the roots of this commandment: So that we remember the miracles of the Exodus from Egypt, as written with regard to the Pesach offering.
This commandment applies in all places and at all times, to both men and women. One who transgress this commandment violates a positive commandment.
