Mitzva 225,226) That one may not deny money that one is holding for another, and one may not swear about its denial

Parshas Kedoshim

“Do not deny!” (Vayikra 19:11)

It is a negative commandment, that one may not deny money that has been deposited in one’s hands or any other claim that another has over him, as it says “Do not deny!”, and Chazal explained that this verse relates to denial of money.

This is also one of the commandments that the brain confirms.

One of the laws of this commandment is that one who denies money that was deposited in his hands, is disqualified from testifying, even if he did not swear falsely. This is true only if there were witnesses that testify that at the time when he denied it, the deposited object was in his house.

This prohibition applies in all places and at all times, to men and to women. One who denies that he had some money which belongs to his friend, transgresses this prohibition, and it is considered as if he has transgressed the commandment of the King. However, there is no punishment of lashes for this prohibition.
