Mitzvah 288-290) Not to perform the service of the offerings on a blemished offering

Parshas Emor

“You shall not bring these things close to Hashem, and you shall not give a fire-offering from them on the altar for Hashem!” (Vayikra 22:22)

It is a negative commandment that one may not sprinkle the blood of blemished offerings on the altar, as it says in the verse “Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a wen, or scabbed, or scurvy, you shall not offer these to Hashem!”, and it was transmitted to Chazal that this prohibits sprinkling the blood of maimed animals.

It is also a negative commandment that we should not slaughter maimed animals as an offering. This prohibition is also extrapolated from the verse when it says, “You shall not offer these to Hashem!”

It is likewise a negative commandment that we should not offer the intestines, fats or other limbs of blemished animals on the altar.

These prohibitions do not apply nowadays, as because of our sins we no longer have a temple where we can bring offerings.
