Laws of Kneading on Shabbath (120)

Chapter 8

Laws of Kneading on Shabbath

5.a. The prohibition against kneading is applicable even if one does not actually knead or directly mix the two substances together, but simply pours the one into the other and they mingle and stick to each other by themselves.

5.b. If one of the substances is a liquid it makes no difference whether one pours the liquid into the other substance or puts the other substance into the liquid.

5.c. Consequently, one may neither

1) pour water into flour nor

2) put flour into water,

even without mixing them together.

6. Two substances of the kind described in paragraph 1 above should not be mixed or kneaded together on Shabbath, even if one was put onto, or poured into, the other before Shabbath.*

*This is so despite the fact that the principle expressed in the previous paragraph treats two substances poured into each other as having already been kneaded together.
