Toras Habayis / Epilogue – 80

Our Sages said, a person’s heavenly trial begins with his Torah learning. This is actually quite obvious, because when a person goes on a business trip, the first question people ask is how much he made, and if he wasted his time in leisure he will come back empty handed, the laughing stock of the town for travelling so far for naught. All the more so this is true of a person who comes all the way down to this world from his place under the divine thrown, and wastes his time here in leisure and frivolity instead of acquiring the goods that are very cheap here and very precious there. So it is obvious that the first question we will be asked is, did you bring the Torah you were sent to bring?

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
