It is impossible to quote all of the sayings of the Sages in praise of one who gives tzedakah. Nevertheless, it is proper that we mention at least a few of them here. Our Sages said: “Tzedakah is great, for ever since the day the world was created until now, the world stands on tzedakah. The more one gives, the more praiseworthy he is, and he will thereby rescue himself from the judgment of Gehinnom.” Our Sages further said: “Our early ancestors — how did they merit this World, Next World and the Days of Moshiach? It was because they acted with tzedakah.
