Even when a person’s income is minimal and his expenses are great, and even when trials and tribulations surround and distract him, he should not be lax in his service of Hashem. He should accept his suffering and trust Hashem that it is all for his ultimate good. He should remember that Hashem loves him more than he loves himself, and if He decreed that this is best for him, it is with ultimate love and compassion that He decided that this is the best way to purify his soul from any blemish. If a person internalizes these thoughts, he will be able to learn even under harsh conditions, knowing that learning with difficulty is especially dear to Hashem, as it shows that his love and devotion are stronger than the difficulty. A Mishna or daf learned under strenuous conditions is like learning a hundred in comfortable surroundings and gets ingrained deeper into a person’s soul.
