Laws of Lashon Hara / 4: 1-2(41)

1. One is forbidden to speak about another in a way that can cause him disgrace. Not only is it forbidden to disgrace someone for a deed that he himself did not commit, for example, to reflect on the bad deeds of his ancestors, but this is so even when referring to an act that the subject himself has committed.

2. This prohibition is whether or not his fellow has transgressed a known commandment or whether it is less known. Even when one commits an act that our sages have told us to preferably refrain from, it is forbidden to speak about it to others.

“Who is the man who desires life… guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceitfully” (Tehillim 34:13-14)
