“The salvation of G-d comes in the blink of an eye”. One of the questions which is asked on the Day of Judgement is “Did you wait for salvation?”. This is not only referring to salvation from exile for which he needs to sit and wait, but salvation from any trouble which may come. He should trust in the Name of G-d and rely on his G-d to save him from his trouble. One who trusts in G-d in truth, will be surrounded by the kindness of G-d. They have already written in the name of the Arizal that when a person recites in the eighteen-fold prayer each day the words “Because for your salvation we hope all the day” he should concentrate on the trouble that he will encounter on that day and that he waits for the salvation of G-d. This achieves wonderful things.
It already says in Mishlei “A horse may be ready for the day of war and the salvation is to G-d”. That means to say, that although it is true that an obligation rests on a person to make an effort as much as he can, either by himself or through others, in order to be saved from his trouble in a natural way, however he should not trust in his efforts but rather trust in the Name of G-d that He will do that which is best in His eyes. He will put into the hearts of His creations to fulfil His will, or not to fulfil it when He does not want the salvation to come through their hands. Or possibly because G-d wants to do more good to him, or because G-d wants him to wallow a little in his pain as an atonement for his sins and the salvation should come through another person, for G-d has many messengers and merit comes about through the one worthy of merit.
Each person should learn from Yaakov our father, who prepared himself (for the battle with Esav) a gift and an appeasement, for war and for prayer. This is a big rule to be saved from trouble, that one needs to put in effort and also to pray, it is not enough to do just one of them. When he has done all of these to the extent of his ability, he should wait for the salvation of G-d, for without any doubt all that G-d does is for the good and the honor will eventually come.
