There are two reasons why people do not maintain enough observance of the mitzvah of kindness:
(a) because they do not know the details of this commandment, since it includes several categories – some for the poor and some for the rich; for the living and for the dead; and kindness with one’s body and kindness with one’s possessions. And each type has several sub-category and every sub-category has numerous details, as will be explained below.
(b) Because people do not know the magnitude of this virtue—how much good it does for the person who makes it their way, both during his lifetime and in the World to Come.
