1) It is prohibited to have any benefit from wood used to construct the Sukkah, whether it was used for the walls or for the Sechach, until the end of Simchas Torah, and one may not take even a splinter from them to clean one’s teeth. This interdiction applies even if the splinter fell off by itself. It follows that on Shabbos and Yom Tov they are Muktzeh and may not be moved (n.b. one may touch Muktzeh things but not move them). 2) Similarly, one is forbidden to derive any benefit from the Sukkah decorations during the days of the festival. Regarding the decorations, however, one can make a condition. The method of doing this is that one stipulates before the commencement of the festival that one reserves the right to use the decorations during the entire festival, then one may use them, and it follows that they are not Muktzeh on Shabbos and Yom Tov. 1) One must concentrate when fulfilling the commandment of dwelling in the Sukkah that it is a reminder of the exodus from Egypt, and also of the clouds of glory in which Hashem placed us in the desert. When a person makes the blessing “Leishev” he should intend to use it for the entire meal, and any sleeping or any other activity he will perform in the Sukkah until the next time that he makes the blessing. In the blessing of “Shehecheyanu” that one makes on the first night he should have in mind the festival itself as well as the Sukkah.
2) A proper formal eating, obligates the person to eat in the Sukkah. However, a snack may be eaten outside the Sukkah. Regarding sleeping, however, even a short nap obligates the use of the Sukkah.
