Chapter 20
Categories of Muktzeh
Laws specifically relating to muktzeh on Yom Tov are explained in Chapter 21.
MUKTZEH MEI-CHAMATH GUFO
43.a. 1) The door of a house or of a large cupboard or a window which has come off its hinges may not be replaced on Shabbath.
2) Such a door or window is muktzeh and may not be moved, unless
a) it came off its hinges before the beginning of Shabbath and
b) one had in mind, before Shabbath, to make use of it, on Shabbath, for some permitted purpose.
43.b. 1) Likewise, an ordinary handle which has come out of a door may not be replaced and is muktzeh, but
2) a handle of a type that is made to be inserted in, and withdrawn from, the door when opening and closing it may be moved and used in the same way as a key. (See also Chapter 23, paragraph 32)
43.c. 1) While one may, on Shabbath, take the door of a small cabinet or locker, such as a first-aid box, off its hinges,
2) it is forbidden to replace it.
3) Yet the door, even after removal, is not muktzeh.
