Chapter 20
Categories of Muktzeh
Laws specifically relating to muktzeh on Yom Tov are explained in Chapter 21.
MUKTZEH MEI-CHAMATH GUFO
44.a. An object which would otherwise be muktzeh mei-chamath gufo is not so if, before the commencement of Shabbath, one designates it for some permanent use that is permitted on Shabbath.
44.b. It is sufficient if this designation is in thought.
44.c. 1) If the object is of a kind which, when used, is used in its existing condition, then, in case of need, it is enough that the designation was for use only on one Shabbath.
2) An example is a stone conveniently shaped for cracking nuts.
44.d. 1) Similarly, designation for use on just one Shabbath is enough in the case of things which are used on a one- time basis.
2) An instance would occur where, before Shabbath, one designated sand for use in temporarily covering up an oily patch on the floor.
