Come and see how much blindness the evil inclination creates for us, for a person will always lend money at interest to make a profit, and even if he lends it to a person who he considers to be trustworthy and reliable we all know that one can have trust in no man, for Hashem is the Judge, He lowers one man and raises up the next, and on the other hand, there are not many people who will “lend” Hashem at interest, even though everyone knows with a full belief that Hashem is trustworthy as He is not a man who can deceive. Even if when discussing other commandments which involve spending money the evil inclination can say that a person should not spend so much since he will not receive reward in this world, (even though it is obvious that in truth even in the other commandments one gains even in this world) now we see that the evil inclination has become so strong against us that he even persuades us not to separate the tithes where one sees the reward that he will have wealth and money in his house immediately with one’s own eyes. Even someone who gives charity anyway which is a tenth of his income, it is only laziness not to make the proper calculations and separate exactly the right amount. The reason that the evil inclination tries to stop us is to stop us causing pleasure to our Creator and to destroy much goodness.
