It is well-known how much dispute is hated, as is explicit in the holy words of Chazal. Because of its importance, it is incumbent on a person to use all of his efforts to avoid and flee from dispute as much as possible, like one fleeing from death.
For behold, one may not take praise for not having had the opportunity to get involved in dispute. One may, however, take praise when one has a great reason to fight, (like when someone sins against him in body, honor or money) and even so he manages to be from those who are abused and do not abuse, who hear their own shame and do not answer, about whom the verse says “And His loved ones are like the coming out of the sun in all its strength”.
It is known that Chazal explain the verse “Who hangs the world on nothing” that it alludes to the fact that the world only exists in the merit of one who keeps his mouth shut at a time of quarrel.
