Chomas Hadas / Epilogue – 144

We find that after the Torah describes how Hashem made a covenant with the Jewish people he immediately made them promise they would support Torah learning, as it says, ‘Cursed is he who does not support this Torah’, and all the curses were repeated as blessings. Our Sages explained that even if someone is so busy he cannot learn at all, if e supports Torah he is blessed. On the other hand if he did learn and taught and kept the Torah but did not support it even though he could have, is considered cursed. Thus, with this commandment Hashem included all Jews in the tremendous merit of supporting Torah learners, since without it He knew there would be no Judaism.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
