Housekeeping and Use of Domestic Facilities on Shabbath and Yom Tov.
ESCALATORS AUTOMATIC DOORS AND COMBINATION LOCKS
52.a. One may use automatic escalators and moving sidewalks (pavements) that operate continuously or at fixed intervals.
52.b. One may not use them if they are put into motion by one’s approach.
53.a. It is prohibited, both on Shabbath and on Yom Tov, to pass through an electrically operated automatic door which is opened
1) by means of a photo-electric cell or
2) when one treads on the floor in front of it.
53.b. In both of these cases, by approaching the door, one would be activating an electrical current.
54.a. There are two types of combination locks.
1) One type is opened by rolling individual digits around to compose a predetermined, multi-digit number.
2) The other type is opened by turning a dial in accordance with set instructions as to the numbers and the direction of rotations.
54.b. Both types may be used on Shabbath or Yom Tov.
