Erecting Shelters and of Partitions (569)

Chapter 24

Laws Relating to the Erection of Protective Shelters and of Partitions on Shabbath and Yom Tov

PROTECTIVE SHELTERS GENERAL, PRINCIPLES

3.a. A protective shelter which does not have a roof measuring at least one tefach by one tefach is treated as temporary and falls only within the Rabbinical prohibition referred to above.

3.b. As this situation occurs only infrequently in practice, its intricacies will not be further discussed here.

4.a. Any protective shelter which may not be erected on Shabbath or Yom Tov – whether the source of the prohibition is the Torah or a Rabbinical injunction – may likewise not be taken down on Shabbath or Yom Tov.

4.b. A protective shelter which may be erected may also be taken down.
