Hilchos Pesach – 15

1. It is forbidden to say about an animal, whether alive or already ritually slaughtered, “This meat is for Pesach” because this choice of words gives the appearance as though the person is sanctifying the animal as the Pesach offering, and it is as though the person is eating Sanctified meat outside [the permissible zone]. Rather, the person should say, “This meat is for thefestivalof Pesach.” Similarly, when roasting the shank-bone one should not say that he is “roasting it for Pesach.” After the fact, if one did say the problematic phraseology, the meat does not become forbidden(Shulchan AruchandMishnah Berurah 435).

2. It is proper to not use this phrasing even about fowl, fish and fruit – despite the fact that none of these items are fit to be offered on the Altar whatsoever – because the person’s words could be construed to mean that he is sanctifying these items in order to sell them and then use that money to purchase a Pesach offering. All agree, however, that one may use this phrasing about wheat because it is understood that he means that they are being guarded for the sake of Pesach(ibid. andKaf HaChaim).

“Moshe established for Yisrael, that they should inquire and teach the issue of the day, the halachos of Pesach on Pesach, the halachos of Atzeres on Atzeres, the halachos of chag on the chag” (Megilla 32)
