Chapter 26

Plants and Trees

3.a. One must not throw seeds or fruit pips onto moist earth.

3.b. One must not throw them even onto dry earth, if it will be made wet by rain or other water (whether on Shabbath or afterwards).

4.a. One may not put the pit (stone) of an avocado, or of another fruit, into a container of water, so that it

should strike root and begin to sprout.

4.b. It is also forbidden to take a pit of this kind out of a cup of water into which it has been put.

4.c. Not only the pit but also the cup and the water in the cup are muktzeh.
