1. When reading the first verse of the Shema one should slit up the words in the following way: Shema Yisrael, Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad. This therefore means, Hashem Who isour G-d, Hashem Who is one. (Shulchan Aruch and Mishne Berurah 61)

2. One should pause between the saying of Baruch Sheim and the beginning of the recital of Ve’ahavta, to divide between the acceptance of the yoke of heaven and the other commandments. (Biur Halachah ibid)
