1. According to most Halachic authorities a person may fulfil his obligation to recite the Shema by using the law of “Shome’a ke’oneh” (when one hears from someone else it is as if he said it himself) by listening to someone else reciting the Shema. In this case, however, it is imperative that the listener understands the words, even though the recital is in the Holy Tongue. (Shulchan Aruch and Mishne Berurah 61)
2. It is very important to say the words of the Shema correctly and one should take great care to do this. In the event that one did not do this, (e.g. he did not separate between similar letters etc.) he has still fulfilled his obligation. (If he omitted even one letter he has not fulfilled his obligation.)
