BOOKS AND STATIONERY

7.a. One must not, on Shabbath or Yom Tov, tie a knot in cords which are threaded through documents to hold them in place inside a file.

7.b. Nevertheless, one is permitted to tie the ends of such cords together with a bow, that is to say by making a loop or a pair of loops over a single knot, but only if one has the intention to untie it again within twenty-four hours.

7.c. The general rule is that knots or bows which one may not tie on Shabbath or Yom Tov may also not be untied on Shabbath or Yom Tov.

7.d. For additional details see Chapter 15, paragraphs 49, 51, 53, 54, 55 and 56.

8.a. One is not allowed to sort into their correct order loose pages which have fallen out of a book, unless one intends to read them immediately. (See Chapter 3, paragraph 84.)

8.b. See paragraph 3 above with regard to torn pages.
