The Kabbalists write that with every limb with which a person sins, he draws an impure spirit upon all of the limbs of his soul, spirit and essence. In the same way, the limb used for fulfilling positive commandments draws upon itself a holy influence.
If we know that each one of the commandments draws holiness upon a person, how much more must Shabbos which is “the first of the holy readings” do so. One should especially concentrate hard with great humility when saying the Kiddush. On Friday one should start already with repentant thoughts and purification in a ritual purifying bath so that maybe he will merit that the extra spirit, soul and essence which comes with Shabbos may rest upon him, and he will also receive the extra holy influence from the sanctity of Shabbos, and thereby he will be able to draw for the entire week on stores of extra holiness to help and to achieve in the service of Hashem. Similarly, when responding to Kedushah and saying “Melo kal ha’aretz kevodo” (“His glory fills the entire earth!”), he should concentrate on drawing upon himself a holy influence from the sanctity of the upper spheres and reflect that he is willing to give his life away to sanctify the Name of Hashem and to fulfil that which is written “And I will be made holy in the midst of the children of Yisrael!”.
