Come see how great the power of Torah is, that our Sages taught that one who learns Torah … has his sins absolved, as it states, ‘With kindness and truth iniquity will be forgiven’. And they further taught, ‘Whoever learns Torah, his afflictions depart’. And sometimes it saves him from a divine death sentence, as it says in the medrash, ‘If a person sinned … what should he do and live? If he learned one daf he should learn two etc.’ The Torah also saves a person from unpleasant incidents in this world and the next and saves him from Gehinom, as our Sages said, ‘There is no kindness that saves a person from Gehinom except Torah’.
