In order that a person should not come to be jealous, he should consider in his heart that all of the nation of Klal Yisrael is one body like one man, and it is therefore correct to be happy when one’s friend has something good and to be upset about his troubles as if they were his own. This is especially the case that he should consider the fact that even when wicked people are in pain the Divine Presence feels the pain with them, and on the other hand when Klal Yisrael are in peace, Hashem is happy with his works.
Furthermore, when a person is in trouble and pain he is unable to serve his Creator, and this is pain for heaven, whereas when he is in peace and comfort, he does much good and gives pleasure to his Creator.
Anyone who loves his Father in heaven with true love, will not be jealous of other people who are elevating themselves in the service of Hashem. Instead, he should consider in his heart, “The good should come to my Father and the pleasure before him whatever happens; it makes no difference if it comes about through me or through others as I do not serve Him in order to receive a reward as my only wish is that my father in heaven should have pleasure.
