The Laws of Prayer (The morning services) (26)

1. Even though it is forbidden to hold something in one’s hand while praying, nevertheless it is permitted to hold a prayer-book, as one is holding it for the prayer itself, and it will therefore not disturb his concentration. (Shulchan Aruch and Mishne Berurah 96)

2. If a holy book falls on to the floor in the middle of his prayer, he may not lift it up in the middle of his prayer. However, if it is disturbing his concentration, and he is therefore unable to concentrate properly, he is allowed to lift it up at the end of the blessing that he is in the middle of. (ibid)

The wise man says: I shall learn two halachot today, and two tomorrow, until I learn the entire Torah entirely… (Vayikra Rabba)
