MEASURING AND WEIGHING ON SHABBATH AND YOM TOV

34. One is also allowed to measure, even with a vessel designed for the purpose, if one does not measure precisely, but puts in a little more or a little less than the exact quantity

35. Scales should not be used for weighing at all, even if

a. one does not weigh precisely, but puts on the scales a little more or a little less than the exact weight, or

b. one does not use weights made for the purpose, but substitutes for them some other item (whose weight one knows or which one intends to weigh after Shabbath).
