103 – Bestowing Kindness / Part II, Chapter Fifteen (b)

There is great benefit when a group of people deposit money in a joint free-loan fund for others. This is considered greater than an individual who lends out his own money, for our Sages said that one cannot compare a few individuals doing a mitzvah separately to many people who do a mitzvah jointly. And even though the result will be that in any given loan each person will have only a small share of the loan, nevertheless the Holy One considers each depositor as the one he gave the entire loan on his own since without his share the loan would not have been possible. Also, this is a mitzvah that the person can be fulfilled even when he is occupied in his business or while asleep in his bed, since the acts of kindness are being done with his money. Moreover, if he leaves money in the fund after his passing from this world which will be lent to others, then even after his death his merits continue to increase with every mitzvah that is done with his money. Even once he will be dwelling in Gan Eden, more pleasure and light will be added to his soul through the merit of this mitzvah that is being done in this World thanks to him.

He has told you, O Man, what is good, and what Hashem asks of you; but to do justice, to love loving-kindness, and to walk discreetly with your G-d” (Micha 6:8)
