The trait of a giving nature is like all other traits: some people are graced by Hashem with a good nature — this is a gift of God — while others have a bad nature and it is as though their hands are tied and they are not in control of their own money, even if it for themselves. This is an evil sickness. But it is in the hands of a person who has found wisdom to free himself from his prison; with insight and strategy the person can wage war against his miserly nature], and he can banish the spirit of impurity a little bit at a time.
One should pray to the Creator of his soul that Hashem save the person from his travail. The greater the anguish, the greater the reward, and one who comes to purify himself is assisted from Above.
When it comes to the ability to give for a mitzvah, every individual can discharge their obligation, because there is set amount that needs to be given to tzedakah — a tenth, which is the proper amount — or a fifth if one is generous. One who does this will not be turned away in shame and will never falter.
