130 – Chessed with Utensils / Part II, Chapter Twenty-Two (a)

Just as there is a mitzvah of doing kindness with one’s money, to give a monetary loan to a person who needs it, so, too, there is a mitzvah to lend utensils and various items to people who need them. This is all the more true if the items are work tools which the person can use to earn money and support himself. For in this case, by lending him the item, the lender is giving the borrower a livelihood. This type of chessed-kindness every Jew is certainly able to fulfill, for it can even be done by lending small cooking utensils that a person might need from time to time.

He has told you, O Man, what is good, and what Hashem asks of you; but to do justice, to love loving-kindness, and to walk discreetly with your G-d” (Micha 6:8)
