133 – Chessed with Utensils / Part II, Chapter Twenty-Two (d)

As explained, it is a great mitzvah to do chessed-kindness towards others by lending utensils and the like to them. This is true even if the items are needed only for mundane uses. All the more so is it a mitzvah to lend a holy sefer to someone so he can learn Torah from it. In this way one is doing an everlasting benefit, as our Sages said on the verse, Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever (Tehillim 112:3) – this refers to one who writes Torah books and lends them to other people. This mitzvah is also included in supporting Torah for which the person will receive extra, special reward from Hashem, may He be blessed.
