152 – Praiseworthy is he who contemplates the needy (b) / Part III, Chapter seven

There is a higher level of fulfilling the verse Praiseworthy is he who contemplates the needy dal], on the day of evil Hashem will deliver him (Tehillim 41:2). This is when the person contemplates how he can help the needy person and lift him out of his poverty, such as to give the man a loan or gift with which the man will be able to start a business and earn a continual livelihood. Or when one finds a job for the needy person, or to purchase from the needy person merchandise that has little or no demand. Or any similar way to help the person earn his livelihood.

Also included in the term dal, “needy person” is a weak or ill person. This also requires thought on how to assist the person and take him out of this needy state.

He has told you, O Man, what is good, and what Hashem asks of you; but to do justice, to love loving-kindness, and to walk discreetly with your G-d” (Micha 6:8)
