With regard to Torah study as well, learning Torah as a group is superior to learning on one’s own. In my opinion, it is better to teach Tehillim to a group than to study the intricate tractates of Ohalos and Negaim alone. King David, of blessed memory, said: I am a friend to all who fear You (Tehillim 119:63). And our Sages said on the verse, What is missing will not be able to be counted (Koheles 1:15), “this refers to one whose comrades formed a group to perform a religious act and he did not join them” (Berachos 26a). It is clear, then, that it is proper for every person to join any group in one’s city that performs a mitzvah together, and then his portion will be with them as well. For one does not know the reward for mitzvos, and when the person will see the reward set aside for the righteous in the Future, and he will not be among them, he will be so full of regret but he will have no way correcting it. Therefore, as long as one is yet alive, he should do whatever he can to do mitzvos together with others.
