23 – The Mitzvah of Lending / Chapter One

13. If money was deposited to one’s care, he is not allowed to lend those funds to others – even when he is allowed to use them for his personal use such as when the money was deposited loose (i.e., not “bound” and “sealed”). If, however [the potential lender] accepts upon himself that should the depositor demand his money, he will pay him out of his own pocket, and not push him off until the borrower pays the debt, then he may lend out those funds.
