If Hashem has broadened a person’s assets and given him much money, it would be good if he would give many presents. This applies not only to giving to paupers and wise men, when it is considered charity, but he should open his hand from time to time to all people with presents which are fitting for them, like the blessing of Hashem which He gave to him. In this way he will increase peace, love, brotherhood, and acquire a good name for himself. His body will be honored by people, and it will be considered a great good deed.
One should not only give presents to Jews, but also to non-Jews should he open his hand, as King Shlomo said “Cast your bread upon the waters for in the fullness of days you will find it!”. It is good for a man who has been favored by Hashem with money, that he should be generous with his money, so long as he does not spend too much. He should sustain his words with justice in the way that it will be a glory to those who perform it and glory for him amongst people.
