288. Washing Hands (4)

A further obligatory hand-washing is when washing before praying, if he stopped concentrating on keeping his hands pure.

In a similar vein, if he was learning and touched a part of the body which is generally covered or something dirty, it necessitates washing for the honor of the Torah. the same applies if he did the above when eating bread. He should not come close to eat, pray, learn or make a blessing with an impure body, as when the hands have become impure, all of his body also becomes impure. he should be very careful about this point, as one who transgresses the words of the Torah or Chazal in things which are easy to fulfil, where there is no exertion or expenditure, will receive a much bigger punishment because he was not careful to fulfil the words of Chazal.

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
