When discussing the keeping of Shabbos there is another sin which people treat with great lenience, and this is the telling a Non-Jew to perform a forbidden act for him on Shabbos, as the law is that even if a Non-Jew performs this act of his own accord for the sake of the Jew it is forbidden to derive benefit from it.
Another thing which many people do wrong when regarding the keeping of Shabbos is that it is well-known that Shabbos and the festivals were given to Klal Yisrael to allow them time to occupy themselves with the study of the Torah and there are many people who are not careful about this and instead of spending the entire day on the study of the Torah they use this holy day in the pursuit of empty things and outings.
That which Chazal explained in tehillim is well-known in that they said on the verse “When I take a festival I will judge the straight ones!”, that it means to say that one who wastes his time and does not learn the Torah on Shabbos and the festivals will be punished for not having learnt even on the weekdays as he will be unable to claim that he was unable to learn because he was preoccupied with his livelihood as we can prove from the Shabbos and festivals that he had plenty of free time to occupy himself with learning Torah and did not do so. On Shabbos one must learn both the written and the oral law.
