There are some people who believe that they are reciting their blessings when in reality their blessings are disqualified because they swallow or skip words. Such people sin doubly: since what they are saying is not a blessing, they are de facto enjoying [the food etc.] without reciting the blessing and they utter the Name of Hashem in vain. The cause of this is their habit of reciting blessings rapidly — which is a bad thing on its own, for even if the person saying the blessing would make sure to say every word, it is still disgraceful to throw out a hurried and hasty blessing to the King of Glory! Therefore every God-fearing person should accept upon himself, with full conviction, and exert every effort to recite the blessings out loud — letter by letter and word for word — gladly and joyfully. This is the ultimate for a person; that he fulfill every good thing in the best way it should be fulfilled, and that is a sign that he is himself a good person.
