464. Measure (1)

There are things that have no measure. This is a major rule in all character traits, that the middle path is perfection. As we see in Pirkei Avos “which is the correct path that man should choose? Any that is glorious to those who do it and glorified by people” that he should not turn to any one of two extremes. This is something that it is impossible to explain fully in writing, for not all people are equal and not all times, and not all places and not all things are equal and a person needs to be wise and understand from his knowledge, and weigh up with a balance and with scales of justice which is the appropriate way to behave according to the way he is perceived in the eyes of people, and according to the nature of people according to their character traits and according to the place and according to the time so should he behave according to the needs of the time, he should neither lengthen nor shorten, he should neither increase nor decrease, and for this he needs correct judgement and he should request mercy from Hashem that He should grant him good advice to do that which is good and correct, each thing at the correct time in the way that he will find favor and good wisdom in the eyes of G-d and mankind.

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
