473. Torah (2)

When a child grows up a little and becomes a toddler who knows how to speak, his father should teach him Torah. He should repeat verses of Torah and details of Torah with him every day and at all times. When he grows a little more, he should take him to the teacher of babies. Every day, every night, every Shabbat and at every time when he is available – he should learn with his child according to his ability. If the child has grown in Torah and he cannot learn with him, or if he doesn’t have time to learn with him, he should pay a Sage to study with him. If he does not have money, he should entreat a Sage with all his energy to teach his son. If there is no Sage in town, he should go into exile with his sons to a place of Torah and lick the dust at the feet of the Sages until they have mercy on him and teach his sons Torah.

There are people who do not know the incredible value of a Sage, that it is good for them in this world and they will delight in the fat of their souls in the world to come for they live a life of nachas and behave with good and straight character traits. They do not transfer anger and sadness from their hearts and evil from their flesh and are not particular about anything in the world. Great knowledge leads to action thus they run to life in the next world.

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
