56 – The Laws of Paying Wages / Chapter Ten

4. This law, that an agent who hired workers for an employer does not transgress bal talin (“Do not withhold…”), applies to an ordinary agent. But a person who was appointed as a guardian over someone’s property – even if it is well-known that the merchandise etc. is not his own – is the one responsible to pay the workers. Therefore, if he delays paying them, he transgresses bal talin. Similarly, a married woman who hires workers to do a job in the home, is obligated to pay the workers that very day, in order to avoid transgressing bal talin.

He has told you, O Man, what is good, and what Hashem asks of you; but to do justice, to love loving-kindness, and to walk discreetly with your G-d” (Micha 6:8)
