MAKING PREPARATIONS ON SHABBATH AND YOM TOV FOR A SUBSEQUENT DAY

70.a. Preparations which are forbidden comprise anything one does that is not required for the same day,

1) even if it involves only a minimal effort and

2) even if it consists merely of saying a few words to achieve a halachic effect (as in paragraph 71e below).

70.b. There is nothing wrong with the performance of an act which, without the expenditure of any additional effort, serves a purpose both on Shabbath and on the following day.
