MAKING PREPARATIONS ON SHABBATH AND YOM TOV FOR A SUBSEQUENT DAY
82.a. An act may be done on Shabbath preparatory to an activity one intends to perform after Shabbath, provided that
1) the act itself is otherwise permissible,
2) the act is done without the involvement of any special bother, and
3) the activity for which one is preparing could conceivably be performed in a permissible manner on Shabbath.
82.b. 1) One may accordingly
a) walk to the extreme limit permitted on Shabbath (two thousand amoth beyond the last house in the town or the same distance beyond the boundary of the eiruv of the place where one happens to be) and
b) wait there until after Shabbath,
so that one can then go further in order to perform an activity which is allowed on Shabbath.
2) This is so even though walking as far as the place where the activity is to be performed is itself forbidden on Shabbath. (See Chapter 29, paragraph 11.)
