BOOKS AND STATIONERY
3.a. It is the practice to allow the two halves of a torn page torn pages to be placed side by side to enable one to read what is written, if one has no other copy of the same book.
3.b. This is the case even if there is lettering where the page is torn.
3.c. One may not stick the torn parts of the page together with adhesive tape.
4.a. One should not open a sealed envelope containing a letter on Shabbath or Yom Tov, nor should one open a letter which is itself sealed shut (that is to say, not inside an envelope).
4.b. It is also forbidden to steam envelopes or letters open.
4.c. One should not even tear the envelope open in such a way that it cannot be re-used.
