Chapter 28

A Miscellany Including Stationery, Clocks, Noises, Baby Carriages, Remuneration and Advance Preparations

CLOCKS AND WATCHES

21.a. One may ask a non-Jew to wind up a watch or a clock to be used for the purposes of a person who is ill mentioned in paragraph 20 above) even if it has stopped going.

21.b. One may ask a non-Jew to wind up a watch or a clock if it is still going, for the purposes of any mitzva.

22.a. It is forbidden to shake a watch or a clock which has stopped, since it will probably start going again, and this is tantamount to winding it up.
