PRODUCING MUSICAL AND OTHER SOUNDS ON SHABBATH OR YOM TOV
34.a. One must not produce any sound, even a sound that is not musical, with an instrument which is designed for that purpose.
34.b. Such an instrument in muktzeh, under the heading of keli she-melachto le-issur.
34.c. One is, therefore, prohibited from using instruments such as whistles, tuning forks or bells on Shabbath or Yom Tov, and they are all muktzeh
34.d. 1) On Shabbath, and on every Yom Tov except for Rosh Hashana, a shofar may not be sounded and is muktzeh.
2) On Rosh Hashana (when it does not fall on Shabbath), the shofar is sounded in performance of a mitzva, and one may handle it even after one has fulfilled the mitzva.
