PRODUCING MUSICAL AND OTHER SOUNDS ON SHABBATH OR YOM TOV
40.a. A whistling kettle may be put on the fire on Yom Tov, despite the fact that it will whistle when the water inside it boils.
40.b. This should, however, only be permitted in a place where it is common to use such kettles and everyone recognizes the sound of its whistle.
40.c. Furthermore, a whistling kettle should not be put on the fire when the water inside it is already boiling. because it will begin to whistle right away, as a direct and immediate result of one’s action.
41. The production of noises to amuse a baby, either by an adult or by the baby itself, is dealt with in Chapter 16, paragraphs 2 and 3.
